Since launching the HostScore benchmark inside Anvil-MC, our community has tested hundreds of Android devices to answer one question: how well can this thing actually host a Minecraft server?

The raw leaderboard is fun, with gaming flagships like the REDMAGIC 11 Pro+ (808 PTS) sitting proudly at the top. But let's be honest: most of you aren't buying a $900 gaming phone just to run a SkyBlock server for your friends. The real question is:

What's the cheapest phone that still hosts a great Minecraft server?

So we took our benchmark results, looked up current new and second-hand prices (July 2026, USD), and ranked devices by points per dollar, pure price-to-performance. Here's what we found.

A quick note on prices: Phone prices move fast and vary a lot by region. All figures are approximate street prices at the time of writing, based on retailers and second-hand marketplaces like Swappa, Back Market, and eBay. We deliberately excluded devices with wildly inconsistent regional pricing (looking at you, discontinued China/India-only models that cost $200 in one country and $500 in another). Treat every price as a guide, not gospel, and always check battery health when buying used, since a server phone runs 24/7.

How we ranked them

The math is simple:

Value score = HostScore (PTS) รท price (USD)

A phone scoring 450 PTS that costs $200 (2.25 pts/$) is a far better hosting deal than an 800 PTS flagship that costs $850 (0.94 pts/$). For context, most current flagships land between 0.5 and 1.2 pts per dollar. We screened the S, A, and B tier leaderboards (300+ devices) for every model that could plausibly compete on value, then cross-checked multiple price sources per finalist and used typical market prices rather than the single cheapest listing we could find. Everything on this list clears roughly 1.5+ at typical prices, and most of it clears 2.0 if you shop smart.

Best value S-tier phones for Minecraft server hosting

S tier is where the monsters live. Every device here scored 400+ PTS, meaning comfortable modded servers, larger player counts, and headroom for plugins like Geyser for Bedrock support.

1

CMF Phone 1

The quiet overachiever ยท new

S
419pts~$166โ€“190 new~2.2โ€“2.5 pts/$

The original CMF Phone 1 never left the leaderboard, and at its current $166โ€“190 price it delivers the best verified points-per-dollar of any brand-new phone we tested, with remarkably consistent pricing across regions. It won't run the heaviest modpacks, but for SkyBlock, OneBlock, and vanilla servers with friends, it's the smartest new-phone money on the list.

2

realme 14 Pro 5G

The modpack powerhouse ยท new

S
488ptsfrom ~$219 ยท ~$290 median~1.7โ€“2.2 pts/$

The realme 14 Pro posts the best raw HostScore of any phone in the budget bracket, and it does it brand new, with warranty, starting under $250. The efficient Dimensity 7300 Energy chip handles sustained server load without breaking a sweat, and the huge 6000mAh battery is a genuine bonus for a device that stays plugged in around the clock. Availability outside Asia and Europe can require an import seller, but pricing is consistent wherever you find it.

3

CMF Phone 2 Pro

The sensible all-rounder ยท new

S
464pts~$233โ€“280 new~1.7โ€“2.0 pts/$

Nothing's budget brand delivers 464 PTS for under $280, and unlike most phones on this list, it's easy to buy in the US and Europe. If your server phone also needs to be your daily driver, this is the pick: modern software, 6 years of security updates, and S-tier hosting chops.

โ˜…

Motorola Edge 60 Fusion

Highest budget score ยท honorable mention

S
497pts~$252โ€“276 new~1.9 pts/$

The highest HostScore of any phone under $300 on our leaderboard. Widely available at major retailers, IP68/IP69 rated, 5200mAh battery. If you spot one on sale or refurbished below $220, and they do pop up, it instantly jumps to the top of this tier.

Also worth watching: the moto g stylus 5G (2024), at 401 PTS, regularly drops to $190โ€“220 at US retailers, hitting ~1.8โ€“2.1 pts/$ brand new with zero import hassle.

Reality check: the REDMAGIC 11 Pro+ tops the leaderboard at 808 PTS but costs $850+, which works out to under 1 point per dollar. You get roughly 2x more hosting performance per dollar shopping in the budget bracket.

Best value A-tier phones for Minecraft server hosting

A tier (roughly 320โ€“392 PTS) is the sweet spot for vanilla servers, SkyBlock, OneBlock, and light modding with a handful of friends. And here's the fun part: this tier is dominated by 2021โ€“2022 flagships that now cost less than a decent graphics card fan.

1

Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G

The value king ยท used

A
373ptsfrom $149 ยท $180โ€“200 typical~1.9โ€“2.5 pts/$

A 2021 flagship with a Snapdragon 888 and a 4800mAh battery, now selling for the price of a budget phone. Listings on Swappa start at $149, with good-condition unlocked units landing around $180โ€“200. It's also the easiest phone on this entire list to buy safely: US carrier models, certified refurbished stock, buyer protection everywhere. Battery degradation is the thing to watch on a five-year-old device, so check the health report before committing.

2

Xiaomi 11T

Highest A-tier score under $200 ยท new

A
389ptsfrom ~$179~2.2 pts/$

The highest HostScore of anything under $200 in the A tier. The Dimensity 1200 paired with a 5000mAh battery makes it a quietly excellent 24/7 hosting machine. It's an import phone past its official update window, a fair trade at this price for a device whose only job is keeping your OneBlock world alive.

3

POCO F4

The endurance runner ยท new & used

A
377pts~$160โ€“185~2.0โ€“2.4 pts/$

The Snapdragon 870 is legendary for one reason: it barely produces heat. For sustained server workloads, the kind that make hotter chips throttle after an hour, that efficiency is worth its weight in netherite. Bonus: unlike most 2022 phones, the F4 is still findable brand new from US-based sellers.

Reality check, part two: current flagships like the OnePlus 13 or Pixel 10 Pro also land in A tier (~380 PTS), at $600โ€“900. That's the same hosting performance as a used S21+ for three to six times the money. Camera bumps don't host chunks.

Best value B-tier phones for Minecraft server hosting

B tier (roughly 189โ€“314 PTS) is where prices fall off a cliff while performance stays honest. Think of it as the entry ticket: in our experience, B is the realistic minimum for a proper modded experience, and it handles vanilla, SkyBlock, and OneBlock without complaint. One category dominates the value math here: 2021 flagships on the used market. Fittingly, every pick below runs the same Snapdragon 888.

1

Samsung Galaxy S21 5G

The $101 server ยท used

B
280ptsfrom $101 ยท $140โ€“185 typical~1.5โ€“2.8 pts/$

The baby brother of our A-tier S21+ is the cheapest working ticket onto this entire list. Floor listings around $101 buy you 280 points, and availability is as good as it gets: carrier models, certified refurbished stock, and buyer protection everywhere. The 4000mAh battery is smaller than its bigger sibling's and five years old by now, so the battery health check matters double here.

2

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G

The fan edition bargain ยท used

B
270ptsfrom $113~1.7โ€“2.4 pts/$

A year newer than the base S21, same Snapdragon 888, bigger 4500mAh battery, and it often sells for less. If you find an S21 FE and an S21 at the same price, take the FE for the battery alone: a phone that hosts 24/7 appreciates the extra capacity buffer.

3

OnePlus 9 5G

The dark horse ยท used

B
280ptsfrom $124~1.7โ€“2.3 pts/$

Snapdragon 888 once more, with a 4500mAh battery and well-behaved sustained thermals. It ties the base S21 on points and is just as easy to find second-hand. Between these three, honestly: buy whichever is cheapest in good condition the day you're shopping.

What about C tier?

C-tier phones (roughly 122โ€“188 PTS) can absolutely host. A vanilla world or a SkyBlock grind with a few friends runs fine, and if a C-tier phone is already sitting in your drawer, it's the best value host in existence: it costs $0. As a purchase, though, C almost never wins. The used market has compressed so much that C-tier devices now cost the same as the B-tier flagships above (a used Galaxy S20 FE 5G goes for ~$112, a full 126 points below a $101 Galaxy S21), and new budget phones like the Galaxy A15 5G or A16 5G land under ~1.4 pts/$. Save C tier for hardware you already own, and skip the mods on it: B is the realistic minimum there.

๐Ÿ† The ultimate winner: CMF Phone 1

Combining both tiers into one final ranking, the CMF Phone 1 takes the crown at 2.2โ€“2.5 points per dollar, verified across four independent sources, brand new with warranty, S-tier performance, and consistent pricing worldwide. No import gambling, no used-market roulette. Around $170โ€“190, install Anvil-MC, and you've got the best-value Minecraft server host money can buy in 2026.

Prefer the used market? The Galaxy S21+ 5G is its equal there, at ~2 pts/$ for typical listings and up to ~2.5 if you catch a floor-price unit around $149. It's also the easiest phone in the world to buy safely. Counting every dollar? The B-tier Galaxy S21 5G starts around $101, the cheapest way into hosting on this list. And if you need more raw power, the realme 14 Pro 5G scores nearly 70 points higher than the CMF at a similar value ratio, the better pick for heavier modpacks or more players.

FAQ

What is HostScore?

HostScore is Anvil-MC's built-in benchmark that measures how well an Android device can host a Minecraft: Java Edition server, factoring in sustained CPU performance, memory, and thermals under real server load, not just synthetic peak numbers.

Do I need an S-tier phone to host a Minecraft server?

No. A-tier devices handle vanilla servers and lighter game modes like SkyBlock or OneBlock with a group of friends just fine, and B tier is the realistic minimum if you want to run mods properly. S tier gives you headroom for bigger modpacks, more players, and Bedrock crossplay via Geyser. Even C tier happily hosts a small vanilla world, it's just rarely worth buying one when B-tier flagships cost the same used.

Is it safe to use a second-hand phone as a server?

Generally yes, a server phone doesn't need a great camera or the latest Android version. Do check battery health (the phone runs 24/7), buy from marketplaces with buyer protection like Swappa or Back Market, and ideally keep the device on a smart plug or optimized charging to protect the battery long-term.

Can these phones run modded Minecraft servers?

The S-tier picks handle most Modrinth modpacks installable through Anvil-MC's one-tap Modpack Setup. Very heavy packs remain off-limits on any phone. No, still no RLCraft. ๐Ÿ˜„
